Considering the Cat

Poor Georgie doesn't know what's coming to him.  This likely doesn't seem like a big deal, but trying to figure out what to do with the kitty through all of this transition, has been somewhat stressful.

He's an indoor kitty.  Since we brought him home, he has never left the house.

We haven't had a whole lot of visitors (because we have no life, and nobody wants to brave the roads and the traffic to come see us, but I digress), poor Georgie isn't used to having strangers in the house.  It's been a very rude awakening for him lately, because there's been all kinds of people here in the past couple weeks.

Allen and Linda and Shawn came to help pack.  Poor Kitty accidently came around the hall corner and met Shawn, and he freaked out and flew out of the room, bonking his head on the door frame, and hid in Bryan's bedroom the rest of the day.

Since then, people have come and gone.  The photographer was here, and then the real estate agent and her assistant.  Now (hopefully) there will be people looking at the house.

So we bought a kennel.  We will need one anyway because he will have to ride in it when we head to Wisconsin for real.

We thought it would be a good idea to get it out of the package and let Poor Kitty kind of hang out in and around it.  I put some toys in it for him to understand that it was his.

Poor Kitty didn't and hasn't hung out in it.  He stepped in it to get his mousie out.  But that's it.  I think he would get in it if it was open at the top.  He sits in every box we get out to pack.

The main problem is when we get Poor Kitty to the new place, how we do it, and how we handle food, water, and kitty litter.

We did decide we needed a litter box for travel, and we have the temporary boxes we use when we go on vacation for long periods.  We can use one of those, because there is a cover to it, and can be covered while Poor Kitty is in the kennel, but we can open it up for him when we are stopped.  Generally, when we do leave on vacation, we put out those boxes with regular kitty litter.  But I think for the move, we will put a kitty diaper in the bottom, and then use his pellets.  That way, we can shovel out the poop and not have to change the pellets as often.  I think too, that we need a stockpile of pellets so we have plenty for the road.  To that end too, hand sanitizer and baby wipes are in order, along with plenty of trash bags and a Tupperware to put the little shovel in.

I'm thinking too, we need a little space in the car when we do move Poor Kitty.  Maybe use small Tupperware for food and water that can be covered when he's not eating.  His giant kitty condo needs to be moved when he is moved.  Definitely need his leash.

So many things to think about.......

(Later in the day, I did push Poor Kitty into the kennel and zipped it shut, and made him hang out in it for a while.  He spent the whole time digging and chewing, trying to find a way out.  He clawed a couple holes in the screens.)

(It was suggested to give Poor Kitty a pill to help him relax, just for the move.  I think we will discuss that and talk to the vet.)
